Parachute fails: Five people killed by aid delivery in Gaza

There was a tragic accident on Friday during air deliveries of aid to the starving people in the Gaza Strip. Five people were killed by a load falling from the sky because the… The parachute had not opened properly, as the Ministry of Health, which is controlled by the Islamist Hamas, confirmed on site at the request of an employee of the DPA news agency. Videos on social media showed how the large aid package fell to the ground practically unchecked. Several people were also injured.
In view of the catastrophic supply situation, the USA and other nations began dropping aid supplies of food on parachutes, especially in the north of the embattled coastal strip.
2.2 million people in Gaza are starving
Several countries are currently trying to get more urgently needed food, medicine and essential products into the Gaza Strip. For example, US President Joe Biden commissioned the army to build a temporary port in the Gaza Strip.
After five months of war, the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territory is catastrophic. According to the UN World Food Program (WFP), all 2.2 million people living there are on the brink of famine.
The background to the distress in the Gaza Strip is massive bombings and a ground offensive by Israel in the coastal area. The military is reacting to the worst massacre in Israel’s history, in which terrorists from the Islamist Hamas and other extremist groups murdered 1,200 people and kidnapped 250 in Israel on October 7th. Israel’s military offensive has killed more than 30,000 people, according to the Hamas-controlled health authority. According to the army, there are around 10,000 terrorists among them.
