Parisian mixes drinks in the “New Bar of the Year 2023”

According to the Mixology Awards, there are excellent drinks and great bars in the Neukölln district of Berlin – awards also go to Munich, Frankfurt, Vienna and Zurich. A French woman also cleans up. Sante!
The Berlin “Wax On” has been named “New Bar of the Year 2023” at the Mixology Bar Awards. The Frenchwoman Rose-Manon Baux, who was awarded “Newcomer of the Year”, also works in the bar in the heart of trendy Neukölln. Born in Paris, she studied philosophy before moving to Berlin four years ago.
The operator of the “Wax On”, which opened in the midst of the pandemic, is British-born Sam Orrock. His shop in the Weserstraße bar mile is aimed at after-work drinkers and those who like to experiment. Prices and opening times are downright moderate for Berlin and today’s standards (drinks around 10 euros, Tuesday to Saturday 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.).
The “Velvet”, which is also located in Berlin-Neukölln, was named “Bar of the Year” at the Mixology Awards – for the second time after 2019. Ruben Neideck, who was honored as “Bartender of the Year”, also worked there until recently.
For Austria, the Viennese “Truth & Dare” was awarded “Bar of the Year 2023”, in Switzerland the “Bar am Wasser” in Zurich.
“Hotel Bar of the Year” was the “Widder Bar” in the luxury hotel of the same name in downtown Zurich. You also have the “Bar Menu of the Year,” it said at the award ceremony on Sunday evening in Berlin.
So-called “Host of the Year” was Sven Riebel from the Frankfurt bar “The Tiny Cup” directly on the banks of the Main. The bar “Kink” in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg district won in the categories “Restaurant-Bar of the Year” and “Bar Team of the Year”.
The “Schumann’s” in Munich by restaurateur and bartender legend Charles Schumann (81) was honored as “Bar Icon of the Year”.
The specialist medium “Mixology – Magazin für Barkultur” has presented its awards for the 16th time since 2007, although there had been no big gala and party in the last two years due to Corona. In addition, for the years 2022 and 2021 there were no descriptive categories such as “Bar of the Year”, instead there were other honors for the industry, which was hit by the lockdowns.
Three years ago, a jury chose the location “The Kinly Bar” in Frankfurt’s Bahnhofsviertel as “Bar of the Year” for 2020. The year before, the “Velvet” in Berlin had already received this most important award of the Mixology Awards.
