Garchinger get citizen budget – district of Munich

Unterschleißheim already has it, as do other towns and communities in the region, and now the university town of Garching also wants to introduce it: a citizens’ budget, i.e. a separate pot that the residents can decide directly how to use. At the most recent citizens’ meeting in autumn, one participant suggested that the city would do well to have such an extra budget for ideas and projects from the local community. The city council has now confirmed this proposal and is having the city hall administration develop a concept. The advantage of a citizens’ budget is that local residents can contribute their ideas for upgrading the location or charitable projects without having to go through committees. After experts in the administration have checked the feasibility, the citizenry selects their favourites. In Unterschleißheim, this happens via an online platform.
