Garching – primary school expansion is delayed – district of Munich

The expansion of the primary school West in Garching to include several specialist rooms and rooms for afternoon care has been further delayed. Because the price demands of the suppliers for the planned extension building in wooden modules were significantly higher than the planned budget – in some cases more than twice as high – the city canceled the procedure and put the project out to tender again throughout Europe. However, this means that it is impossible for the new building to be completed by the start of the 2023 school year as planned. The city administration now hopes that the construction will be completed by the end of 2023 and that it can be handed over for use on January 15, 2024.

In a decision of principle, the city council committed itself to constructing all public buildings in the future in timber construction in order to meet sustainable standards for the environment. This also applies to the expansion of the elementary school. So far, the municipality has estimated a budget of almost 6.7 million euros. In view of the market situation, however, according to the administration, cost increases of around 20 percent are to be expected.
