Oil and gas prices are skyrocketing due to the war in Ukraine, and climate change continues inexorably. In view of this, more and more people are looking up – and taking a look at the roof of their house. If you use sunlight to generate electricity, you will always have CO²-free energy at your disposal and, so it is hoped, you can become less dependent on other power sources. But what should you pay attention to when purchasing a photovoltaic system and for whom is it worth it at all? The Photovoltaic Aesse wants to provide answers to these and other questions next Saturday, April 2nd, in Garching.
One of the expert contact points at the trade fair is the Energy Agency Ebersberg-Munich, which, as an independent body, advises citizens and local authorities on environmental and energy issues. The topic of photovoltaics and heating is currently a concern for many people in the district, confirms Anna Neumeier, photovoltaics consultant at the energy agency. The need for advice is correspondingly high. “The main motivation for most people who think about installing a PV system is to use as much of the self-generated electricity as possible,” says Neumeier. This is also attractive in view of the lower feed-in tariffs for the general power grid.
In the past, however, the energy storage required for this was still quite expensive, which deterred some interested parties. In the meantime, however, Neumeier observes, most systems are being built on residential buildings with storage systems. Except when the power consumption is very low, this makes sense, says the expert. A calculation example: “Without storage, a four-person household with average electricity consumption can achieve around 30 percent self-sufficiency with a system with an output of six to ten kilowatts over the year – with a storage system we are approaching 70 percent,” says Neumeier. In addition to storage, new systems usually also have an energy management system that makes their own electricity consumption visible. “As a result, many people become more aware of their behavior and they reduce their electricity consumption,” says Neumeier. From the expert’s point of view, the improved system technology makes the use of solar energy very worthwhile today: “In most residential buildings that are solidly built, it made sense to use PV,” she says. From the expert’s point of view, the considerable construction costs are also a good investment in view of the expected increase in energy prices.

In order to find the right system, Neumeier recommends examining each individual case. And she warns that when it comes to the occupancy area, you should also consider your own electricity requirements in the future, which may increase due to e-mobility and digitization. In addition to the Ebersberg-Munich energy agency, representatives from all sectors involved will be present at the trade fair in Garching, including VR Bank Ismaning Hallbergmoos, the Munich Land solar initiative, the Solar 24 and Solarland Bayern groups, TommaTech and a tax consultant – all sorts of things To be able to answer questions about the design, construction and operation of a photovoltaic system.
The organizer of the photovoltaic fair in Garching’s community center is the Munich-Land climate platform, a working group that was founded from the environmental protection working group of the Munich-Land CSU district association. The security of supply through own power generation on the roof has gained new importance in the past few weeks, says the former mayor of Schäftlarn and chairman of the working group, Matthias Ruhdorfer. With the trade fair, the group wants to offer all the necessary information on the subject of photovoltaics for those who want to make a contribution to the energy transition in addition to supplying their own household with electricity.
