Garching – Grass on the Isar embankment catches fire – Munich district

The persistent drought of the past few weeks requires great caution when staying in nature, as the city of Garching points out on the occasion: early Tuesday evening, the city’s volunteer fire brigade was alerted because there had been a wildfire in the Isar floodplains. According to the fire brigade, grass and undergrowth were on fire around eight meters wide on the banks of the Isar, and trees were also affected. With a total of 18 emergency services and three fire engines, the volunteer firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control. In the course of the post-extinguishing work, the people from Garching also used two thermal imaging cameras to detect and extinguish any embers. The city urges walkers to exercise caution, not throwing away smoldering cigarette butts and not grilling outside designated zones.
