Garching: bicycle helmet saves Bub’s life – district of Munich

Only thanks to a bicycle helmet did a nine-year-old boy not suffer serious head injuries. On Friday afternoon, the student was cycling on a sidewalk on Mühlfeldweg in Garching, from which he swerved onto the street. Because of a wall and a hedge, the view of the road in this area is significantly restricted, so the boy apparently overlooked the car of a 65-year-old from the Freising district and hit the driver’s door of the car head-on. He then hit his head on the edge of the roof of the car and fell onto the road. The nine-year-old suffered serious injuries and was immediately taken to a hospital by paramedics. Because he was wearing a helmet, however, serious head injuries were avoided, the police said.
