Gabriel Attal announces an upcoming “large-scale experiment”

The government wants to standardize students’ uniforms and the first step is about to be announced. “By the holidays”, the Minister of Education promised to announce a “major experiment” on wearing uniforms at school.

“Like many French people, I am divided on the question of the uniform. (…) I am not yet convinced that this is a solution that would resolve everything, and also not convinced, like some, that we should not talk about it and try it,” declared Gabriel Attal on France Info this Wednesday. He said he was “interested to see what results a large-scale experiment would give in terms of school climate, in terms of raising the level of our students” or the impact “on authority at school , school bullying, questions of secularism”.

Check the “effectiveness” of the uniform

Gabriel Attal will therefore “announce very soon, between now and the holidays”, this experiment “with a certain number of establishments, in different local authorities which will experiment with the uniform in our country on a large scale”.

He assured “to work with the local authorities concerned so that the experiment can be carried out without any burden for the families”. The minister promised “real research monitoring to measure effectiveness”. “And if we see that it is effective, we can have a real debate on the generalization of the uniform in France, but at least it will be done on a scientific basis,” he concluded.
