Furniture company Steinhoff – the process of the accounting scandal begins – economy

In the balance sheet scandal at the international furniture group Steinhoff, the former CEO Markus Jooste, 62, and a trustee have to answer to the Oldenburg district court from Tuesday. The public prosecutor accuses the former boss of inciting in five cases and the trustee of aiding and abetting in four cases of balance sheet manipulation in the billions. The disclosure of manipulations at the end of 2017 almost completely destroyed the stock market value of the company. Steinhoff has its roots in Lower Saxony. Today, however, Steinhoff International Holdings has its headquarters in Amsterdam and is controlled from South Africa. The public prosecutor’s office accuses the men of having written book profits from bogus transactions in the balance sheets from 2011 to 2015.
