Fuel prices: refueling is becoming more expensive again

Prices at German petrol stations continue to rise. The ADAC criticized the current fuel prices as significantly excessive.

Motorists have to dig deeper into their pockets when refueling than in the previous week. The fuel prices have increased significantly within a week, as announced by the ADAC. A liter of Super E10 costs 1.779 euros in the current national average, which is 4.2 cents more than a week ago. Diesel currently costs 1.858 euros per liter, an increase of 2.9 cents.

Since about mid-December, fuel prices have tended to rise again. In the last six week comparisons, prices have risen five times and fallen only once. Last year, fuel prices rose to an all-time high, averaging €1.86 for Super E10 and €1.95 for diesel.

“Clearly inflated”

The ADAC criticized the current prices as “significantly excessive”. The price for a barrel (159 liters) of Brent crude oil is at a similar level as in the previous week, and the euro has strengthened against the dollar again. “A month ago, when the oil price was similarly high, Super E10 cost about ten cents less than now, diesel about six cents less,” said the automobile club.

According to ADAC calculations, the price difference between diesel and Super E10 has now fallen to 7.9 cents. Normalization is therefore not in sight. Because diesel is taxed more than 20 cents per liter less than petrol, but diesel still costs significantly more.
