Fritzbox for fast internet via mobile communications

At the MWC industry meeting at the end of February, AVM wants to show its first Fritzbox, which also draws energy via a LAN cable (Power over Ethernet, PoE). This means you can place the Fritzbox 6860 5G for optimal mobile reception even where there is no socket within reach. It is intended for Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), i.e. for stationary use of a mobile network. It achieves up to 1.3 Gbit/s via four MIMO streams and optional carrier aggregation, both in 5G stand-alone and non-stand-alone mode (SA, NSA). If there is no 5G, the box uses LTE (4G); It is even UMTS compatible (3G).

For the internal network, the mobile router has a Gigabit Ethernet port and Wi-Fi 6 with two MIMO streams. In addition, it manages up to 600 Mbit/s gross (2.4 GHz) or 2400 Mbit/s (5 GHz). Cordless telephones can be linked via DECT, calls are made via VoLTE, VoNR (5G) or VoIP. AVM does not mention the IP protection rating of the housing, but expressly allows “outdoor use”.

In addition to the 6860 5G, AVM is also packing a new provider router for the MWC: The Fritzbox 7682 gets the Internet via telephone cable (DSL supervectoring, profile 35b to 300 Mbit/s, or G.fast, profile 212 to 1 Gbit/s) . The latter is interesting for fiber-to-the-basement installations, where the fiber ends in the basement and the Internet continues in the house via telephone lines. The Fritzbox 7682 does this via Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 with four MIMO streams in two radio bands (maximum 1200 and 5760 Mbit/s gross) and two Ethernet ports each with 2.5 and 1 Gbit/s. As is typical for Fritzbox, it has an integrated DECT base for telephony and includes smart home functions.

AVM has not yet commented on prices and availability dates. Experience has shown that it can take several months from the announcement to the market launch. The MWC will take place in Barcelona from February 26th to 29th.
