Well, what’s going on with Hubert Aiwanger? First the rather measured speech on Ash Wednesday in Deggendorf, now an equally solid performance at the federal party conference of the Free Voters in Bitburg at the weekend. Is this a phase that will soon be over? Was he alienated by his party, in which many watch with suspicion as to whether Aiwanger wants to establish it to the right of the Union? Or maybe he understood something? He likes to claim to be a man of practice. But a little theory is never wrong; in this case: to know what helps a democracy and what harms it.
