In one of the largest economic criminal proceedings in recent years, the district court of Hildesheim sentenced three defendants from Hamelin to prison terms. The chamber remained under the prosecutor’s request.
The accused in the process of fraud involving millions have to go to prison for nine, four and a half and four years, as the regional court ruled on Saturday. The charges against the men, aged between 38 and 57, were subsidy fraud in a particularly serious case involving forgery of documents from May 2010 to November 2013. They are also said to have committed several counts of gang fraud with forgery of documents between November 2016 and January 2019. The public prosecutor’s office had demanded prison sentences of ten, six and seven years, respectively, for the accused.
Six million euros in funding from the NBank
Among other things, according to the public prosecutor’s office, the accused received subsidies for 49 new jobs in Hamelin from the state NBank. In fact, no jobs have been created. The damage: around six million euros.
Non-existent server sold – for eleven million euros
In a second complex, which was negotiated, it was about eleven million euros: the men are said to have sold servers to leasing companies – these servers, however, they did not own. The accused’s company thus raked in almost eleven million euros, according to the accusation.
Judgment exceptionally at the weekend
According to the court, the fact that the verdict was announced on a Saturday was due to scheduling difficulties in the extremely complex case involving three defendants. In order to comply with statutory deadlines, the decision was made to make an exception for the appointment at the weekend.
The case against an 82-year-old who was originally also accused was separated due to the man’s health problems and is to be negotiated later.
