Imperial weather in Munich – of course for him: When the emperor sets off on his last journey, the sun shines towards the shining figure.
The farewell to Franz Beckenbauer († 78), who died on Sunday after a long and serious illness, took place on Friday afternoon – in the smallest circle of family and friends.
Without much fanfare and without FC Bayern.
Franz Beckenbauer: Final resting place in his parents’ grave
Germany’s greatest football star finds his final resting place in the family grave in the cemetery at Perlacher Forst – with his parents Antonie and Franz.
Diagonally opposite is the grave of Beckenbauer’s beloved son Stephan, who died in 2015 at the age of 46 as a result of a brain tumor.
Photo ban: Security guards monitor Franz Beckenbauer’s funeral
Incidentally, the farewell to the football icon was strictly guarded. In front of the funeral hall and around the grave – security people everywhere.
They made sure that no one disturbed Beckenbauer’s private funeral. Anyone who pulled out a cell phone or camera was immediately thrown out of the cemetery.
Shortly before 12 p.m., the emperor’s coffin – decorated with a sea of roses in shades of pink, red and orange – was carried from the funeral hall towards the family grave.
Directly behind: Beckenbauer’s wife Heidi, who was by his side until his last breath, with their children Joel (24) and Francesca (20).
There were countless flower wreaths at the grave – the most noticeable being a huge red rose heart from Heidi and the children. The text reads: “Forever in our hearts.”
