It was December 28, 2022. Franz Bauer went on a ski tour with his buddies in the Wilder Kaiser. Little snow, but lots of sun, “an easy thing,” he says. And yet this day, this tour was something special: With the 1200 meter ascent to the Choralpe, the almost 60-year-old has broken a mark, mastered a challenge that he had set himself: one million meters in altitude in four years.
