Franck Riester, Minister of Foreign Trade, positive for the second time

Franck Riester is unlucky with the coronavirus. The Minister for Foreign Trade announced Wednesday evening that he had tested positive for Covid-19, in a message posted on his Twitter account. This is the second time he has contracted the virus: he had indeed already tested positive when he was Minister of Culture, in March 2020.

“Following a fever, I tested positive for Covid-19. I isolate myself this evening, and carry out my missions from a distance. Be careful, get vaccinated and protect your loved ones by respecting health instructions and barrier gestures, ”wrote the Minister.

Agnès Pannier-Runacher also positive

Franck Riester is not the only member of the government to have to place himself in isolation. On Sunday, her colleague in charge of Industry, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, announced that she had tested positive, although asymptomatic, and had isolated herself. In addition, at the end of November, Prime Minister Jean Castex had also tested positive for the coronavirus, just like his 11-year-old daughter.

France is facing, like the rest of Europe, an outbreak of Sars-Cov-2 contaminations with the arrival of the Omicron variant, much more contagious than the Delta and which it is in the process of replacing as dominant in the hexagon. According to figures released by Public Health France, 84,272 new cases were confirmed on Wednesday in the country, where pressure continues to mount on critical care services, which now have 3,147 patients.
