Former Bayern favorite Franck Ribéry is said to be considering a return to Munich – but only as a youth coach. That’s what lies behind it.

Ex-professional According to “Kicker” information, Franck Ribery is toying with a return to FC Bayern Munich. The Frenchman is currently employed as a technical trainer at US Salernitana in Italy and has been linked to a job in the youth team of the German soccer record champions. Or do you go straight to the professionals? According to a report in “Sport Bild”, Zinédine Zidane, who was considered Tuchel’s successor at FC Bayern, asked Ribery about the Munich team. Ribery, 40, and Zidane, 51, were former teammates on the French national soccer team. Ribery was under contract in Munich from 2007 to 2019 – and speaks German well. Zidane is considered a possible coaching candidate at Bayern.

World champion Zidane, Champions League winner with Real Madrid as a player and coach, does not speak German. If the worst comes to the worst, Ribery could play an important role as assistant coach of the French football legend. The new Bayern manager Max Eberl recently said in his presentation about the future coach’s linguistic skills: “It should be German or English, but French is a bit thin for me. That’s also a criterion, but not an exclusion criterion . I don’t want to limit myself too much.”

Franck Ribéry lives in Munich

According to the Kicker report, the former crowd favorite Ribery still has a residence in Munich. His son trains and plays in the U13 at the Bayern campus. It wasn’t until the end of January that Ribery took part in one of his students’ sessions and played with the junior team. “You could always tell from him and his game that he felt at home at FC Bayern and in Munich,” Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeneß said in October 2022 when the 2006 runner-up world champion retired.

Ribery is currently working at US Salernitana, where former German world champion Jérôme Boateng has also been under contract since January. At the same time, the former winger is getting his coaching license and completing training for a license in order to be able to take over a team as head coach.
