France successfully test fired a strategic ballistic missile

France carried out a test firing of an M51.3 strategic ballistic missile on Saturday, November 18, without a nuclear charge, in Biscarrosse, in the Landes, the French Ministry of the Armed Forces announced in a press release.

“First successful test firing of the M51.3 strategic ballistic missile! » welcomed the Minister of the Armed Forces, Sebastien Lecornu, on the X network. “This development perpetuates the credibility of our nuclear deterrence and demonstrates the excellence of our launcher sector”he added.

The firing was carried out by the General Directorate of Armaments (DGA) from the Biscarrosse site, in Landes, according to the ministry’s press release, for which the M51.3 missile “will contribute to perpetuating the credibility of our oceanic deterrence over the coming decades”.

“The missile was monitored throughout its flight phase by the DGA’s test resources. The fallout zone is located in the North Atlantic, several hundred kilometers from any coast. This test was carried out without a nuclear charge and in strict compliance with France’s international commitments.underlines the press release.
