During a boat trip, four vacationers from Germany got caught in a storm and stranded on an abandoned cliff. After dramatic hours, they were rescued by Croatian emergency services.

Four Men from Bavaria had an accident with a motor boat in Croatia and had to be rescued in a dramatic rescue operation. The vacationers were on the Croatian Adriatic coast between the island of Rab and the island of Pag. On the way back towards Rab they got caught in a storm last Saturday evening.

The way back would have taken only 30 minutes, “but suddenly the engine went out in the middle of the sea,” one of the men reported to the “Bild” newspaper. The boat belongs to a 56-year-old of the group. According to their reports, one of them made an emergency call, then the boat filled up and capsized.

Two of the men jumped into the water and, according to their own statements, swam in the turbulent sea for more than seven hours before they were able to save themselves on land. There they injured their feet, legs, arms and hands on the sharp rocks. Despite spending hours in the water, one of their cell phones was still working. Help could be requested via the location app – but it only came hours later.

Dramatic hours: “We began to die of thirst”

In their report, the men speak of complete exhaustion: “We started to die of thirst. We took empty mussel shells, peed in them and drank our urine. Not a good idea, it constricted the parched throat even more,” said one of them to the “image “. “We lay down to die, I was thinking of my family.”

About three kilometers away from them, the other two men who stayed in the boat found a hold on rocks on the shore. One of them made it to a holiday home nearby with the last of his strength. A couple took the man to the police. With his help, the mountain rescue was able to find the remaining friend.

As the mountain rescue service announced on Facebook, the rescue took place around 12 noon in a bay. After a total of 14 hours, all four vacationers were brought to safety.
