Four far-right activists retried for their unleashing of violence

On March 25, 2022, they were sentenced by the Nantes criminal court to sentences ranging from three years suspended to eight years in prison for “intentional violence with a weapon, in a meeting and with premeditation”. But everyone appealed. The four young men are therefore retried from this Monday, by the Morbihan Assize Court, in Vannes. The incriminated events took place in Nantes, at the Du Chaffault tram station, on May 7, 2017, on the evening of the second round of the presidential election marked by the victory of Emmanuel Macron against Marine Le Pen.

The accused, at the time GUD sympathizers, are accused of far-right student unionof having savagely attacked Erwan David, 18 years old at the time of the events, and Steven Dardenne, 16 years old, with kicks, an iron bar and a glass bottle.

After-effects after the violence

The two victims, encountered by chance while returning home by bike, had been confused by the attackers with anti-fascist activists and beaten with extreme violence. Erwan David, who was prescribed one year of total incapacity for work (ITT), suffered after-effects, particularly on the neuropsychological level.

Since the first instance judgment, three of the four accused have been released on parole, under judicial supervision. Another is in pre-trial detention. A fifth accused died accidentally in 2020 during the investigation. The appeal trial is scheduled to take place throughout the week.
