Mercedes will have an attractive Formula 1 cockpit on offer from 2025. Hamilton then moves to Ferrari and frees up a place. Even teammate Russell is already being contacted by interested parties.

The Mercedes cockpit from next year will be free Lewis Hamilton is attractive to some Formula 1 drivers. The second Silver Arrows driver George Russell also noticed this. Russell, who is also contractually bound for next season, said he had recently spent a lot of time with team boss Toto Wolff at the Formula 1 test drives in Bahrain. “It was pretty funny watching the drivers’ names pop up on the phone.” Russell himself also received “a few calls and text messages,” said the 26-year-old Englishman with amusement.

Hamilton (39) is leaving Mercedes after this season and moving to Ferrari. Russell is currently in his third year with the Silver Arrows as a teammate of his English compatriot. “I want to be challenged by the very best and that’s how it was in the last two years,” said Russell, for whom “good harmony between the drivers” is important. This also has a positive effect on the work of the engineers.

Mick Schumacher is also considered one of the candidates for the vacant Hamilton cockpit. The son of Formula 1 record world champion Michael Schumacher is still a reserve driver at Mercedes and is also active in Alpine’s long-distance program this season.

“I’m of course aware that Lewis’ Mercedes seat will then be free. I’m still keeping an eye on Formula 1 and hopefully the dream will come true again,” Schumacher told the TV station Sky in Bahrain. “In the end, it’s important that I do my own things and see my role as a reserve driver – and especially my role as a WEC driver in the foreground. If I perform well, let’s see where it takes me.”
