In qualifying, the Dane benefited from a break after an accident involving Mercedes driver George Russell and could no longer be pushed from the front. Magnussen set the fastest time in still dry conditions. After the onset of rain, the competition was no longer able to counter.

Second was Max Verstappen, who was already the world champion in the Red Bull, ahead of Brit Russell. Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher were eliminated prematurely. The mini-event over 100 kilometers will take place on Saturday (8.30 p.m.).
