Dramatic finale: Hansa Rostock relegated, FC St. Pauli second division champions

On the last matchday of the 2nd Bundesliga, the main focus was on the bottom of the table. In a dramatic finale, Hansa Rostock was unable to avoid relegation. FC St. Pauli secured the championship.
In addition to VfL Osnabrück, FC Hansa Rostock also has to make the difficult transition to the third division. The Ostseestädter lost to SC Paderborn 1:2 (0:0) at the end of the season and therefore missed out on relegation. Despite the defeat against St. Pauli, Wehen Wiesbaden can still secure their place in the league in two duels with third division Jahn Regensburg.
2nd Bundesliga: FC St. Pauli rewards itself with a championship
Kiel and St. Pauli had already been promoted before the match day, and Fortuna Düsseldorf could no longer be pushed out of the relegation place. The Rhinelanders won against 1. FC Magdeburg 3:2 (2:1) on Sunday. Hamburger SV concluded another disappointing season with a 4:1 (3:1) against 1. FC Nürnberg – promotion will be their goal again next season.
Fortuna will play in the promotion relegation next Thursday (8.30 p.m.) away at VfL Bochum, the decisive second leg will kick off the following Monday (8.30 p.m.) in Düsseldorf. “We know VfL Bochum well, it’s almost a neighborhood duel,” says Fortuna captain Andre Hoffmann. “These will be two very close games, especially on Castroper Strasse it’s always hot. But we’re going into the two duels with a big heart and, together with our fans, we’ll give everything we can to achieve promotion.”
Hansa Rostock fans cause the game to be interrupted for a long time
VfL Osnabrück went into the last matchday with no chance as a relegated team and said goodbye with a 2-1 win against Hertha BSC. In the heart-stopping finale for the relegation place, Wehen Wiesbaden had the better end. Bad scenes, however, took place in Rostock, where the game had to be interrupted for around 25 minutes shortly before the end due to the massive use of pyrotechnics by the Hansa fans.

Wehen Wiesbaden will play next Friday (8:30 p.m.) in Regensburg and the following Tuesday (8:30 p.m.) in front of their home crowd for the chance to stay in the league. “We have to recognize the opportunity in these games. We have a good team, we have to prove that,” said Jahn coach Joe Enochs.
