Before the Formula 1 race in Canada, Mick Schumacher was allowed to test the Silver Arrow on the track for the first time. His boss is very happy with the role of Mercedes reserve driver.

In his role as Formula 1 reserve driver at Mercedes, Mick Schumacher continues to collect diligence points from team boss Toto Wolff.

“Mick has already become a valuable member of the team,” said Wolff ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix at the weekend. The Austrian referred to Schumacher’s assignments in the team’s racing simulator. The 24-year-old’s work “proved useful to improve our lap times,” assured Wolff.

The two regular Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell had recently expressly emphasized Schumacher’s part in the upswing of the Silver Arrows after second and third place in the race in Barcelona.

“Great job done”

The son of record world champion Michael Schumacher “did a great job” that helped the team “get on the right track,” said Hamilton. Russell praised the fact that Schumacher and the simulator team worked well past midnight setting up the cars ahead of qualifying in Barcelona.

After two years as a regular driver at Haas, Schumacher’s contract with the US team was not renewed. Therefore, the young star signed with Mercedes as a test and reserve driver. Most recently, he steered the new Silver Arrow around the racetrack for the first time during tire tests for manufacturer Pirelli in Barcelona. “This experience will definitely help me in my role. I now understand better what to look out for and what to work on,” said Schumacher afterwards.
