Former Prime Minister definitively found guilty in fictitious jobs case

This Wednesday, the Court of Cassation ruled on the appeal of François Fillon and his wife convicted of fictitious employment. At 2:10 p.m., justice ruled and the former Prime Minister was found definitively guilty.

The high court, however, ordered a new trial concerning the sentences handed down against him and the damages. The defendants had filed appeals against the decision of the Paris Court of Appeal which, on May 9, 2022, imposed on the ex-tenant of Matignon four years of imprisonment including one year, a fine of 375,000 euros and ten years of ineligibility. Pénélope Fillon was sentenced to two years in prison, as well as a fine of 375,000 euros, and Marc Joulaud, former substitute deputy for François Fillon in Sarthe, was sentenced to three years in prison, with respective ineligibility periods of two and five years. .

The defendants, who have always maintained their innocence, were also ordered to pay 800,000 euros in damages to the National Assembly.
