It will remain rainy almost everywhere in the country in the coming days. High volumes of water are unlikely to initially mean any relief for the flood areas.

In many parts of Germany it remains wet in the first week of the year. The German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach said it would be strong until Thursday Rain ahead “with only short interruptions.” High amounts of rain can be expected from Lower Saxony to the Black Forest as well as in the eastern and southeastern low mountain ranges. The DWD expects 30 to 50 liters per square meter within 30 to 60 hours, and up to 120 liters in mountainous areas.

According to the DWD, there will be a lot of rain showers on Wednesday, and there may also be isolated thunderstorms in the west and southwest in the evening. In the southeast and east, however, it is clearing up. The temperatures climb to 7 to 14 degrees. With the exception of the northeast, there may be strong to stormy gusts on Wednesday, as well as squalls in the North Sea and in the mountains.

The DWD also expects showers in some areas on Thursday. As the day progresses, it is expected to become drier and clearer, especially in the south. Temperatures reach 7 to 11 degrees. Strong to stormy gusts can be expected again in the middle of Germany and in the south. Gusts of wind can occur in mountainous areas.

According to the DWD, rain showers will also fall in some areas on Friday. There may also be snow and sleet in the east and northeast. Temperatures drop a little and range between 10 degrees in the southwest and 1 degree in the northeast. The wind dies down. Rain will fall again in some areas on Saturday night, and snow will also fall in the lowlands. It can also become slippery.
