“For the first time”, the Restos du coeur will have to refuse beneficiaries from November

The general delegate of Restos du coeur confirmed this Wednesday that the association would be forced to reduce the number of beneficiaries this winter, in particular due to the increase in its costs against a backdrop of inflation.

Charges increasing due to inflation, “volunteers out of breath”… Heard this Wednesday at the National Assembly, the general delegate of Restos du coeur, Jean-Yves Troy, confirmed that the association will have to restrict the number of beneficiaries this winter:

“From November, we will refuse people for the first time in the history of Restos du Cœur,” he lamented.

“We are not made humanly”

“The Restos du coeur are not sized today to distribute 170 million meals, to accommodate 1.3 million people, or 200,000 more in one year,” added Jean-Yves Troy. Furthermore, “we are not cut out humanely, even if we have 70,000 regular volunteers and 30,000 one-offs”.

As a result, the association decided to take measures: “We are going to lower the allocations and we are also reducing the criteria for access to food aid within Restaurants”, detailed Jean-Yves Troy, referring to a crisis ” brutal and massive.

The general delegate of Restos du coeur also indicated that there was an unknown as to the association’s ability to meet its budget in the coming years, in particular thanks to the generosity of the general public.
