For Darmanin, “the government is satisfied” after the broad censorship of the Constitutional Council

” No no ! “, there is no failure of the government on the immigration law, estimated Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of the Interior, this Thursday evening in “20 Heures” on TF1. The Minister of the Interior was invited a few hours after the partial but very broad censorship of the immigration law by the Constitutional Council.

More than thirty articles, out of 86, were censored, totally or partially, mainly on the form, a few on the substance. For Gérald Darmanin, the government won its case: “It is a very important text for the French. […] What interests me is applying the law […] The Republic will never have had such a harsh law on immigration.

Law application

The law will be able to be applied quickly according to him: “It is up to the President of the Republic to promulgate the law. I had an exchange with him, he will do it […] in the coming hours. » Few implementing decrees need to be taken according to the minister. He indicated that he would bring together “all the prefects” on Friday morning to “apply the law”. They will be asked to re-examine the files of delinquent foreigners who could not be deported under the old rules.

On the censored provisions, almost all those added during negotiations with the Republicans, the government, which “is satisfied”, “will not present a bill”. Understandably, the agreement made with LR is therefore a little obsolete, since there is almost nothing left of it in the final text. As for the criticisms of “government of judges” coming from the far right, in particular from the president of the Rn, Gérald Darmanin brushed them aside: “Mr. Bardella is talking nonsense. […] I’m here to protect the French, it’s serious work. »
