A traditional crown revisited
The Christmas wreath is different from the Advent wreath. The latter is a decoration traditionally comprising four candles, which is intended to be placed. The Christmas wreath is a hanging decoration, traditionally made using fir branches.
To stick to tradition while bringing a touch of modernity, we forget the fir branches. We opt instead for other conifers such as cypress, or even boxwood or olive trees. A few eucalyptus branches are also good to give a little Scandi look to the wreath. In terms of decoration, you can play the sobriety card by adding, for example, a woven straw decoration or a simple bell.
Among the major decorative trends for Christmas 2023, we note a strong comeback in ornaments and garlands made from dried fruit. It is of course the orange, the iconic fruit of the Christmas holidays, which takes the spotlight. To bring a little variety to the decor, it is however possible to create a mix and match with slices of lemon or pomelo.
Count 2 fruits to garnish your crown. Dried citrus slices can adorn a traditional fir wreath, accented with a tartan print bow. They also adapt to a more contemporary look, like this crown with its asymmetrical design. To ensure that they hold correctly, use the glue gun to fix them.
The blanket is one of the essential accessories for this Christmas 2023, which is above all intended to be cozy and warm. To add an extra touch of softness to the decor, think about the pompom crown. Timeless, white is a sure bet for having a model that you can bring out again next year.
However, it is possible to fall for a forest green, a powder pink or any other trendy color for Christmas 2023. Although the pompom crown is sufficient in itself, it can be decorated with decorations: a Christmas village or a simple bow. red velvet.
“Gingerbread” style decorations undoubtedly bring a gourmet touch to Christmas decor. Cannons for decorating the tree, they also allow you to make a chewable crown. To make them, you can use different techniques: polymer clay or clay, among others.
However, salt dough is the simplest option, and it allows you to create DIY decorations that will cost you nothing (or almost!). To make it, we rely on the basic mixture – 1 cup of salt, 2 cups of flour and about ½ cup of water. And we add a good dose of cinnamon to color the dough. Cut out your “biscuits” with a cookie cutter. Once dry, they can be attached to your wreath using a glue gun.
And why not a crown to put on?
The Christmas wreath is traditionally an accessory designed to be hung. But here it is: not everyone has a suitable location! The solution is then to play with codes to adapt the concept.
In the absence of a cardboard element purchased in a craft store, you can cut out the structure of your crown in a hat cardboard box. This option also allows you to define its width more precisely. Raw cardboard is a nice choice to stick with Christmas 2023 decorating trends, which give pride of place to the natural look.
However, it is possible to customize the support using spray paint. Then use a glue gun to attach the decorations. Here, we opted for a village with a very Scandi design. Make sure you have a base of sufficient size so that it is stable.
