Football – South Korea attracts Klinsmann – Sport

Former national coach Jürgen Klinsmann is considered a candidate for the post of national coach of South Korea. Talks are already taking place, he said table football on its website on Wednesday. For Klinsmann it would be the third job as national coach. From summer 2004 to summer 2006 he looked after the German national team – also at the home World Cup almost 17 years ago, where he let the German team play spectacular attacking football and only failed in the semi-finals against eventual world champions Italy. From July 2011 to November 2016, the now 58-year-old ex-professional was the US national coach. At the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, his team reached the knockout stage despite losing 1-0 in the group stage against Germany. There, the US selection was narrowly defeated by Belgium (aet 1:2).

Portuguese Paulo Bento announced his resignation as coach of the South Koreans after the Asians lost 4-1 in the World Cup round of 16 against Brazil. At the beginning of January, the South Korean association promoted 57-year-old Michael Müller, who used to work in the youth team of the German Football Association (DFB), to technical director. At club level, ex-national striker Klinsmann last worked until February 2020 as a coach for the Berlin Bundesliga club Hertha BSC, which he left under strange circumstances in a cloak-and-dagger operation.
