Uli Hoeneß has one wish for FC Bayern and the German national team: more duels have to be won again. He also formulates a demand for the Munich stars.

Uli Hoeneß demands a different performance from the FC Bayern soccer stars than in the past championship season.

“One thing is clear that FC Bayern has to be more disciplined – and that more effort has to be put in than in the last six months,” said the honorary president during his visit to the training camp at Tegernsee. “Everyone needs to know that because the number of leading players will increase significantly.”

After Konrad Laimer and Raphaël Guerreiro, other professionals are to come to the German record champions. “I’m very happy because I think we’ll get a good team,” said the 71-year-old. Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane and Manchester City’s Kyle Walker are good prospects for the transfer.

Hoeneß relies on physique and robustness

Like coach Thomas Tuchel, Hoeneß relies on the new Bayern team acting with more physicality. “I assume that everyone will get this attitude now,” said Hoeneß. “If you look at the whole development of German football since the World Cup until today, including Bayern Munich, then things like tackle strength, like the very last game, have suffered a lot in my opinion.”

Not every team like Pep Guardiola’s Champions League winner Manchester City could “solve everything in a playful way,” said Hoeneß. “In my opinion, the one-on-one training will be very important. We have to play German football again and both the German national team for the European Championship and FC Bayern will have to do their part.”

Coach Tuchel is also focusing on more physicality in the new season, which begins for Munich after the Supercup duel against RB Leipzig on August 18th at Werder Bremen. “We sometimes lacked a bit of robustness and physical stability. That’s why that’s part of the profile of the players we’re looking for,” said Tuchel.
