The win against Augsburg is obviously good for Freiburg – also with a view to the upcoming highlights in the European Cup and the league. But there is still room for improvement in terms of football.

The After the hard-fought 2-0 (1-0) win against FC Augsburg, SC Freiburg is heading into the difficult games that still await this week with new self-confidence.

“We still have two chunks to go before the international break,” said defense chief Matthias Ginter, looking ahead to the Europa League game against West Ham United on Thursday and the Bundesliga game at FC Bayern Munich on Sunday.

Ginter said it was a “classic victory” against Augsburg, “a fighting game” and “not a treat for the neutral spectator.” Vincenzo Grifo with a penalty kick (5th minute) and Philipp Lienhart with a header after a corner (56th) scored Freiburg’s goals on Sunday.

The fact that the Breisgauer team remained clean for the second time in a row and now have ten points after six matchdays was particularly pleasing for Ginter. “We’re looking forward to the evening games here at home,” said the 29-year-old about the upcoming duel with Conference League winners West Ham. The English Premier League club is “a big club” with “many good individual players”.

SC coach Christian Streich also felt the win against Augsburg was “extremely important”. The coach speculated that he could give his team strength. He was significantly more satisfied with Freiburg’s fighting performance than with their footballing performance.
