The German national soccer team will have to do without striker Lea Schüller in the top game against Spain on Tuesday. The attacker had a positive corona test, as the German Football Association (DFB) announced on Monday. Wishes for recovery came from Thomas Müller, among others. Lea Schüller’s Corona case is not the first at the European Championships in England, but the first in the German team. According to the DFB, the 24-year-old attacker from Bayern Munich, who scored a goal in the 4-0 win over Denmark in the first game, only had mild symptoms. She was immediately isolated from the rest of the squad at team headquarters in London. “For us, that means first and foremost that we stand together as a team and play for Lea,” said national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg. “The important thing is that he’s fine with her.” The risk of infections in the team cannot be reduced 100 percent.
According to the UEFA protocol, free testing is possible after five days and if there are no symptoms, according to the DFB. Theoretically, Schüller could therefore join the German team again next Saturday (07/16/22) against Finland. Popp and Freigang are available as a replacement
