The German soccer players missed their ninth triumph at a European championship. The team of national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg lost the final against England in London’s Wembley Stadium without the missing captain Alexandra Popp with 1: 2 (1: 1, 0: 0) after extra time.

Ella Toone (62nd minute) and Chloe Kelly (111th) scored the goals in front of more than 87,000 spectators for the hosts to win their first European title. Lina Magull (79th) scored to equalize for the record European champions. Popp, who had scored six goals in the tournament, had to sit out in the final at short notice due to muscular problems.
