Food: Lidl wants to get into the flexitarian economy

So now Lidl too, really. More and more grocers are putting vegan dishes on their shelves. More precisely: purely plant-based finished or substitute products. At the forefront so far: Rewe and Aldi Süd. The two dealers currently still carry the “Vegan ranking“, which the Albert Schweitzer Foundation set up in April. In Vienna last year, the Rewe subsidiary Billa even ventured out with a purely vegan supermarket: Plantilla with 2,500 items. And Rewe recently also scored vegan points with its German discount subsidiary : Penny advertised “real prices” in July – and quite blatantly for organic and vegan. However, the campaign only lasted a few days. Which also makes it clear: vegan is not the same as organic.
