Several federal states are fighting against Flood – and the fear that the situation will escalate is growing. “Lots of rain and new danger for the dikes,” was the headline on the “Wetter.de” portal on Tuesday morning. These are not good prospects, especially since there was continuous rain for days before Christmas. Everything is wet and soggy.

The portal’s meteorologists predict that heavy rain will spread in the west on Tuesday. In the North Germany The sky was gray in the morning and it was raining heavily.

In the new year it will quickly become “turbulent” again, warns the German Weather Service (DWD) in a current video. The experts therefore expect “a lot of rain and also storms”. They also predict continuous rain in parts of the Federal Republic, which is expected to last until Thursday night. “From Lower Saxony to the Black Forest as well as in the eastern low mountain ranges there are sometimes high amounts of rain,” summarizes the DWD. This rainfall could worsen the situation in the affected regions.

The flood situation in Lower Saxony is particularly tense

It is still primarily the weakened dikes that are exacerbating fears of flood disasters. This is especially true for Lower Saxony, parts of North Rhine-Westphalia and the south of Saxony-Anhalt. Many helpers have been working in these regions for days. In the municipality of Lilienthal near Bremen, two forests are no longer allowed to be entered due to flooding. “The soils of the forests are this way due to the increased ground and surface water levels and the persistently high water levels
“Softened that the stability of some trees is no longer given and some of them are currently being uprooted and falling over,” the German Press Agency (dpa) quoted an order.

Because of the general flood situation, the many helpers are unlikely to be able to calm down any time soon. The Technical Relief Agency (THW) had around the New Year Around 1,000 volunteers are deployed nationwide, as the organization announced after the New Year.
