Five dead in Sydney knife attack, eight people hospitalized

It was in the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center in Sydney that “several people” were stabbed, Australian police said this Saturday.

The attack occurred at the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center in the city’s southeast, which was closed with Australian police calling on people to avoid the area.

A movement of panic

The New South Wales state ambulance service told AFP that a man had been shot dead by police, and that it was probably the attacker. The motive for the attack was not immediately specified.

Witnesses said there was panic, with people seeking shelter as police attempted to secure the area. Several people took refuge in a supermarket, where they stayed for about an hour.
