First hostages back in Israel: Why people in Tel Aviv don’t celebrate

In Tel Aviv, relatives and friends of the abductees watched the release of the first hostages from the hands of Hamas in a central square. Our reporter was there, she experienced relief, but above all: fear for those who are still being held.

The light from the television flickers across the faces of the people gathered around it. They stand arm and arm, eyes wide, some of them crying. Here on what they called the “Square of Hostages and Missing Persons” in the center of Tel Aviv Hundreds gather every day.
