Fireworks and jerrycans banned for Halloween

The Hérault prefecture has announced several measures to strengthen the security system for Halloween celebrations. In this sense, it responds to the directives of the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, who “asked the prefects to anticipate the risks of urban violence”.

The prefectural decree took effect this Tuesday at 7 a.m. It is valid until November 1 at 6 p.m. It concerns in particular pyrotechnic devices. “The purchase, sale, carrying, transport and use of fireworks and pyrotechnic articles of all categories” are prohibited. With the exception of only professional pyrotechnicians.

But also flammable products. “The purchase, sale, removal and transport of household alcohol and fuel in jerrycans, tanks or various containers” are prohibited; specifies the decree. Here again, professionals with an activity requiring the supply of fuel are authorized to obtain it.

In view of “the context of elevation of the Vigipirate plan to the level of “emergency attack” and the strong mobilization of the police” and “in order to ensure the smooth running of the festivities and to guarantee the safety of all”, the Aude prefecture has published a decree with roughly similar prohibitions.
