Fires near Mühldorf: Investigators assume extremist perpetrators – Bavaria

The public prosecutor’s office has taken over the investigation after the arson attacks on train traffic and a geothermal energy construction site in the Mühldorf am Inn district. After the crime committed on Monday morning (October 2nd), investigators are now assuming an extremist background, as the public prosecutor’s office announced.

According to initial investigations, six construction and forestry machines were completely destroyed and five other construction machines were also damaged in the arson attack near Polling. Not far from the first crime scene, there was another arson at a cable shaft along the Tüßling-Mühldorf railway line, which is why train traffic was paralyzed on Monday morning.

According to initial estimates, the total damage amounts to around 2.5 million euros. Because politically motivated crimes are assumed, the Bavarian Central Office for Combating Extremism and Terrorism (ZET) has taken over the further investigation, it was said.
