A fire raged on 400 square meters at an amusement park near Berlin. Several buildings burned, ten people were injured. The founder wants to reopen the following day.

Great relief for the emergency services after the fire in Karl’s adventure village in Elstal near Berlin: the main building of the amusement park is standing. That’s why around 65 firefighters had been fighting since 11 a.m. on Tuesday. The amusement park could be open to guests again on Wednesday, said founder Robert Dahl in the afternoon.

The flames cut a 400-square-meter swath into the amusement park on Tuesday. Nine people suffered from smoke inhalation, one firefighter had serious circulatory problems, a fire department spokesman said. Judging by the extent of the fire, one got off lightly, reported several of the emergency services. A spokesman for the fire brigade estimated the damage to property at a “six-figure amount”.

Sheep could be saved

According to the police, the fire broke out around 11 a.m. in a workshop in the adventure village and spread from there to a slide, a stall and a stable. The animals in the stable – mainly sheep – could be saved. The emergency services called in immediately initiated the evacuation of the park. The police blocked the access roads.

At around 2 p.m., the fire department gave the all-clear. The fire is under control, the spokesman said. The remaining extinguishing work was slowly coming to an end. Farm owner Dahl then expressed his thanks to the employees and rescue workers. Only through their good cooperation was the damage comparatively small, he said. After hearing about the fire at his amusement park, Dahl immediately got in his car and drove from Rostock to Elstal.

Represented in several states

Originating from a strawberry cultivation business, Karl’s adventure villages in northern and eastern Germany have grown into amusement parks for families in the countryside. According to the company, there are seven locations with different offers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg and Schleswig-Holstein. There are also two manufacturing shops in Berlin. Four locations in Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony and Lower Saxony are under construction.

Dahl wants to massively expand the location in Elstal. Among other things, numerous holiday apartments are to be built and additional family attractions are to be created. The plans are not endangered by the fire, emphasized Dahl.
