Fire in Kempten: one dead, several injured – Bavaria

A man died in an apartment fire in an apartment building in Kempten in the Allgäu late Tuesday evening. The police said on Wednesday that it was probably the 57-year-old owner of the attic apartment. The exact cause of death was initially unclear, so the public prosecutor ordered an autopsy.

Seven residents of the house were also slightly injured in the fire. They were released from the hospital later that night. It was initially unclear what caused the fire. The firefighting continued into the early hours of the morning. According to a police spokesman, the fire brigade then stayed on site to ensure that the fire did not break out again.

The criminal police have started investigating the cause of the fire, and an expert from the State Criminal Police Office should help. The damage to the house is estimated by the police to be in the millions. The city has accommodated the residents in other accommodations.
