Finistère, Côtes-d’Armor and Manche on red alert from midnight this evening

There’s not much time left to prepare for the arrival of Storm Ciaran. The departments of Finistère, Côtes-d’Armor and Manche will be placed on red wind alert from midnight on the night of Wednesday to Thursday, according to the latest Météo-France bulletin.

Seventeen other departments, from Vendée to the North, will be placed on orange alert for waves-submersion, wind or rain-flooding, Météo-France indicates this Wednesday. The three departments most exposed to violent winds will remain on red alert, the highest level, until 10 a.m. Thursday.

More than 3,200 firefighters mobilized in Brittany

The violent winds will be accompanied by significant precipitation “with accumulations of up to 30 to 50 mm in six hours in Finistère, Morbihan and Côtes-d’Armor”, details the national agency. Côtes-d’Armor has been placed on orange “rain-flood” vigilance, in addition to red wind vigilance.

Gérald Darmanin announced Tuesday evening that the transition of several departments to red alert was imminent, while gusts of up to 170 km/h are expected during the night from Wednesday to Thursday. The Minister of the Interior had also announced that 3,200 firefighters will be mobilized in the four Breton departments (Côtes-d’Armor, Ille-et-Vilaine, Finistère and Morbihan) as well as Manche and Loire-Atlantique.
