Fines for poachers in the Calanques

Wolves (also called bars elsewhere in France) full the cooler. Four underwater hunters were sentenced this Monday morning by the Marseille criminal court to fines of 3,000 to 3,450 euros for poaching in the Calanques, reports Provence.

They had been surprised last February by National Park inspectors in hunting action. On their return to the port of Pointe-Rouge, their hunting equipment as well as fifteen wolves were seized, when the regulations limit to three catches per person. Their fish would have supplied restaurants in the city. The defendants deny the charges and have 10 days to appeal.
