A fine of 9,000 dollars is a small amount for the man who has already had to deposit over 250 million dollars with the New York judiciary – hardly worth a footnote in his accounting. For the USA, however, the fine imposed on Donald Trump on Tuesday in New York is of historical value: He is now not only the first former President of the United States in the dock, but also the first to be charged with criminal contempt of court order is condemned. And the court explicitly threatens to make him the first former US president to be put in prison.
