Fined for spray painting Russian consulate in Strasbourg with swastikas

The facts occurred on Friday in Strasbourg. A man of Russian nationality, opposed to the war led by Vladimir Putin in Ukraine, tagged swastikas outside the Russian consulate and violently pushed back a policeman who came to arrest him. He was tried on Monday in an immediate appearance before the Strasbourg court.

As a reminder, the 53-year-old individual living in France since 2005 had tagged in broad daylight and in front of several witnesses swastikas in pink paint on the billboards, the mailbox and the sidewalk of the Russian consulate, located in a very busy square in Strasbourg. A plainclothes policeman, who happened to pass nearby, intervened and was then slightly injured during a scramble between the two men, before other officers intervened to arrest him.

For the degradations committed and “violence on a depositary agent of public authority without ITT”, the Strasbourg court sanctioned him with a fine of 300 euros.
