A truck crashed through the central barrier into oncoming traffic on the A6 near Ansbach in Middle Franconia on Saturday morning. There were several seriously injured people, according to a police spokesman. According to witness reports, the truck collided head-on with another car in the opposite lane. Two other vehicles were also involved.
Two rescue helicopters are still in use. It is still unclear why the truck left the road. Police closed the highway in both directions and traffic was rerouted, causing traffic jams.
An expert should now clarify how the truck could have swerved into the opposite lane. The police spokesman said the highway would remain closed until then. Recovering the truck using a crane is expected to take several hours.
