The city of Goslar has been awarding the Kaiserring since 1975. It consists of an aquamarine set in gold and engraved with the seal of Emperor Henry IV. Prize winners include Joseph Beuys and Christo.

The British filmmaker Isaac Julien receives the Kaiserring from the city of Goslar. “He tears down barriers between different artistic disciplines,” said a statement from the city of Goslar on Tuesday. The non-endowed award is one of the world’s most renowned prizes for modern art.

The jury also highlighted Julien’s wide range of topics. The 61-year-old artist deals with important current social issues such as racism, migration and diversity. The filmmaker is expected to accept the Kaiserring in Goslar on October 8th.

Julien («Looking for Langston») was born in London, where he mainly lives and works today. He produces films for cinema and television as well as works for art museums and galleries. He has been a member of the renowned British Film Academy Bafta for over 20 years.
