The second season of the mystery series about the Russian wellness healer Masha (Kidman) has been filmed from mid-January to the end of June – in the young, modern Penzing studios, in Austria and Munich. The SZ reported exclusively on the big coup for the Bavarian film industry in January. Studio boss and co-producer Joe Neurauter has now confirmed the major project and the time frame.
Filming has now arrived in Munich, in the heart of the city. The production team has been spreading out at and in the Bayerischer Hof for a few days, parking spaces and entire sections of the street were closed at Promenadeplatz, and outfitters and technicians were coming and going. The producers (Fifth Season, Supernix and Supernix Austria) and the FC Bayern bosses are silent on the question of the new coach. So there will be further speculation as to where the next film will be shot in Munich, when the Oscar winner herself will appear in front of the camera and: which Munich luxury hotel she and her entourage stayed in.
Insiders agree that she lives in a five-star hotel in Munich. Also about the fact that the Hollywood production is worth millions and is unique for Bavaria. The project, called “9PS” in the industry, has funding from Bavaria (one million), Germany (ten million) and Austria (7.5 million). 18.5 million euros is an enormous amount for a film production in this country.
“Nine Perfect Strangers,” based on the novel by Liane Moriarty, revolves around the healer Masha (Kidman), who welcomes nine different people into her remote resort and promises them “total transformation.” Problems and secrets come to light, Masha’s methods are frightening and controversial. The first season of the eight-part series from the US provider Hulu was released in 2021, and the German premiere was broadcast on Amazon Prime. It is not yet known when the second season will come out.
In addition to Kidman, the cast of the new season includes Annie Murphy (“Schitt’s Creek”), Christine Baranski (“Good Wife”), pop singer King Princess, Murray Bartlett (“The White Lotus”), Aras Aydın and the Austrian Lucas Englander (“Transatlantic “). The filming regions of Bavaria and Austria are also so good for the series because the new episodes are set to take place in a remote wellness resort in the Alps. This may not fit with the hustle and bustle of Promenadeplatz, but film has always been a great illusion.
