Film tip: “The time we share” as a preview in Munich – Munich

In his new film, French director Laurent Larivière has publisher Joan Verra (Isabelle Huppert) tell her life story. The reason for the story is an unexpected encounter. Verra’s childhood sweetheart Doug (Stanley Townsend) is suddenly in Paris. As a teenager, she had a short but momentous love affair with the Irishman: their son Nathan was born. Whether she has children is a question that quickly arises, and she must decide whether to confess to Doug about the child she has kept secret. Stirred up by the encounter, Verra finds support with her admirer: the writer Tim Ardenne, whose oblivious pining Lars Eidinger is allowed to portray. Also with her now adult son (Swann Arlaud), who is surrounded by something elusive: Is he possibly only (still) existing in Verra’s head? The film, which premiered at the Berlinale, plays with different levels of perception and time. In a kind of stream of consciousness, the present and fragments of the past flow into one another. At the Munich Film Art Weeks, the international co-production can be seen as a preview before the official theatrical release at the end of August.
